Warriors Book: "Power of Three: The Sight"

The Sight is the first installment of the Warriors: The Power of Three series by Erin Hunter was released April 24, 2007. This book was recommended as Children's Summer reading by the Washington Post Children's Book Club.

Plot summary

In The Sight, it is revealed that StarClan has sent Firestar a prophecy that he has kept secret for several seasons: There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws. In the prologue, Firestar realizes that that the three kits of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw are the three prophesized cats. Jaykit, one of the three kits, is blind. Early in the story, the three kits go on a fox hunt and must be saved. Jaykit is injured while Hollykit and Lionkit get a severe telling off from Firestar and their parents. During their punishment, Hollykit decides she wants to become a medicine cat. The three kits become apprentices and Jaypaw is trained as a warrior by scarred Brightheart (and is very disappointed by firestars choice of mentor), Lionpaw is mentored by Ashfur and Hollypaw is very pleased when Firestar chose Leafpool, Thunderclans medicine cat, as her mentor. Hollypaw finds that she has trouble with being a medicine cat. She can't stand the cats wincing in pain and all the bitter pus, but her heart soars when she gets to do some battle training.

Extras!
Hollypaw and Lionpaw get to go to the next Gathering, though Jaypaw stays home confined to camp as a punishment for going out alone and ending up WindClan territory. In the middle of the Gathering, Graystripe abrupty returns with a kittypet called Millie. Later, Jaypaw encounters Tigerstar and Hawkfrost in a dream. They tempt him with teaching him to fight, but Spottedleaf, a StarClan cat, retrieves him and tells him that he is to become a medicine cat. Jaypaw unwillingly accepts his destiny and trains as a medicine cat while Hollypaw takes the path of a warrior, finally realizing that was where her heart lay, with Brackenfur as her mentor.

Hostilities raise between the Clans over cats not born in the Clans. At the next Gathering, a Clan daylight Gathering, during which friendly competitions between the Clans occur, it is proposed by Squirrelflight to try and solve the problem. During this daylight Gathering, Jaypaw saves Lionpaw and a WindClan apprentice, Breezepaw, from being suffocated in a collapsed badger set. Concluding the novel, Jaypaw finally learns, through Firestar's dream, of StarClan's prophecy: There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.
